We spend so much time in our lives going through the motions. Drones in the machine, working for the man and not questioning anything – and when the shit hits the fan we lose sight of the bigger picture.
Here's what I do when I'm not feeling it — my ultimate cure for a shit day.
Write down the ten things in your life that you're grateful for. Your parents, your loved ones, your surfboard—anything that you would move a mountain for.
This list should make you smile when you look at it—it should make you look out towards the Universe and say a big glorious ‘Fucking Thank You!’.
Here are some of the first five things on my list:
- My health
- My children
- My wife
- Food and shelter
You'll notice that my work/business/career isn't on this list. This is important to me. I'll cover this in another post. And don't worry, you'll hear quite a bit about Crossfit in future posts.
Come back to your list often. Memorise it and ensure it offers you perspective in every decision you make. If it doesn't, it's the wrong list—tear it up and try again.
The clearest minds, the most senior executives I've worked with are able to make decisions—fucking big decisions—without blinking an eyelid. Having your priorities sorted is the key to being able to do this.
